Ideas Tap

Illustrator Emma Block wrote an online article for website Ideas Tap on 'How to design a good business card' in which she lists important things to consider when designing your business card.

Things to consider:
  • Bleed
Do not put your name or number, contact information, too close to the edge of the card as it may be trimmed off during the printing process. Typically leave a 3mm edge for the bleed.
  • Correct resolution
Print resolution to 300 dpi, save file as .pdf not .jpg and save into CMYK not RGB.
  • Eligible
Do not use a typeface below 8pt and make sure it is in an eligible colour and can be read against the background.
  • Proofread
To save on any errors, spelling mistakes that will occur AFTER printing, rendering your business cards useles.
  • Keep it consistent
Use the same fonts, colour palettes and images that are on your website to keep your personal branding consistent.
