Facebook:
- Post images and ask for feedback, two way conversations with followers. Shows that you listen and take in their opinion. Creates loyalty.
- Engaging visuals and minimal text. Grabs followers attention.
- Timing: Having topical posts to current calendar events such as: Christmas, Valentines Day, Mother's Day, Halloween and so on.
- Reply to followers. All followers. Simple responses are fine just don't ignore your followers/fanbase.
- Schedule your posts when most of your followers would be online (depending on your situational location, UK, USA) - You can find this out through Facebook.
Twitter:
- Tweet daily. Minimum once a day, keep your audience listening and following.
- Consider your posts. You only have 140 characters per tweet, make sure you include the important information.
- Add your twitter link to other social media networks.
- Use hashtags to get your tweets seen on a global audience (#illustrator)
- Get involved in trends and competitions.
- Allow retweets and public account.
- Reply to @ direct tweets. Again, loyalty.
- Like Facebook, post pictures.
- Post daily (if possible) post progress work if not.
- Follow back other illustrators. Gain followers through your shared interests.
- Use hashtags. Use a lot of hashtags. Instagram does not have a limit to posts or characters so add as many hashtags as you can think of to get your posts seen across as many searches as possible.
- Reply to comments. Simple replies.
- Comment on other peoples work.
- Link your Instagram to other social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.
Things to consider:
- Time of day. When is good to post? (Facebook: 1PM-4PM, Twitter: 1PM-3PM, Instagram: Anytime) Take things such as lunch breaks and commutes to and from work into account.
- Quality photographs. If you're taking pictures instead of direct scans or uploads make sure oyu have good quality images.
- Tag/hashtag if applicable.
